Bob Might Not Be Who You Think He Is! - A Spyrohawk & Noelscrap Theory

First off, I don't use spoilers normally. I'm using this tag because this theory will blow Bob's Battle Chestplate right out of your inventory!

Secondly, this is 75% @SPYROHAWK and 25% me. Although this thread was written by me, most of the actual facts and info came from his thread (below).

Chapter One: Bob's Soul
​

Bob has sealed a beast away using his "life force". Why is he in heaven in the quest "Bob's Reincarnation" then? He can talk to you and fight. Soulless people don't have the will to fight nor talk. Bob the Zombie on the other hand, is soulless as he hasn't got the will to groan, defend himself, or doing anything but try to get your attention.

Chapter Two: The Animals
​

Bob kept three animals. Read this quote from Nohno: "His name is Cluckles, he was given to me by a man named Bob before he went to war" however the Sealed Letters (which are from actual Bob) say "I trust you to hide them" which means Nilrem is impersonating Bob for sure.

Chapter Three: Sealing It Away
​

Sealing the beast away... seal means fasten or close securely. Close? Wait a flamin' minute... DERN! The gateway to Dern has been sealed using Bob's life force! But then Bob can't use his life force for stopping the spread of corruption! Nilrem, someone who impersonates and must "fake my [Bob's] death" must have used his own life force to stop the spread of corruption! The hero we know is actually Nilrem!

Chapter Four: The Skilled Man​

We know that Bob was skilled in all four classes because of Bob's Depressing Bow, Wand, Spear, and Dagger. But even though he's that skilled, Bob says to Nilrem "you are the most skilled man than I have ever known". All of Bob's weapons are Nilrem's weapons. Bob is not a master of the four classes.

Chapter Five: Nilrem's Curse
​

If you haven't believed me yet, the new Armor Merchant sells "Nilrem's Curse" (why the hell would you want to buy a cursed chestplate?) and this tells us that Nilrem was cursed. Nilrem became Bob the Zombie because he gave up his life force to stop the corruption. How do you give up your life force and still survive soulless? You curse yourself with some dark magic.

Chapter Six: Bob the Hero
​

So now that you know that some things Bob did were actually done by Nilrem, why is Bob not a real hero? Truth is, he kind of is. He stopped the beast (I'm assuming the Wither, as the Ender Dragon could just fly over the mountains) from getting to Wynn by closing the gateway. He died and for his sacrifice he was reincarnated (but he's still in heaven? Wait... was Bob in heaven? Idk). Nilrem is cursed forever, and he kept Bob's true life a secret for... about 2 real years or something (gg m8).

Okay, so this was just about proven entirely wrong by the theorists in the comments. Still, here is the stuff they haven't managed to beat up yet:
- Nilrem has pretended to be Bob at least once (when hiding the animals)
- Bob sealed the Dern gates by giving up his life force
- There are two sets of Bob weapons (the Mythic and the Depressing) and so maybe both Nilrem and Bob were masters of the classes
- Nilrem has a curse
Yeah, it's not much any more XD But seriously, thanks guys. I'd rather a disproved theory than a false theory :)

 

They aren't? I thought they were, as the quest 'Bob's Lost Soul' Needs Bob's Tear for stuff to extract his soul or something? (xD)

 

I am sorry, but for me it just seems to "random" and made up, also some (most...) informations you used are wrong / not confirmed.

Think about it. When writing a final letter to an old friend, wouldn't you also compliment him?
You can't just take this as a fact and say Nilrem is the hero.

 

I would not put it that way. It's not like Bob was a bad guy. Some things just don't add up. And you make a lot of assumptions here. Like I don't think it's too much to say Nilrem pretended to be Bob sometimes, but saying Nilrem and Bob both died together? That's too far, especially since Bob specifically asks Nilrem to train new heroes.

I have made a thread on Nilrem and a few on Dern is you wanna take a look.

I also want to point out that I was not affiliated with the making of this. So any questions about this I may not be able to awnser, so ask Noel, cuz he's the one that has the awnsers.

If Nilrem was meant to be training new heroes, did he go to Fruma?

So far it has been mentioned 3 times in game. One of those times is has been called our home province. On the forums, before we even knew the name fruma, we were told that a new province will be named in gavel as where the player comes from.

Oh, and I am completely sorry, but this part is 100% wrong. It says, and I quote:

• Bob: Using what ability I had left to me, I transferred my power to my animals, in three pieces. In the hope that those worthy to harness it will seek them out.
• Bob: The spell I placed on the door to this realm will only break to the one who collects my power. But it cannot have escaped your notice, you do not have my power.

Bob split his power, not his soul. Minor word difference, large meaning difference.

And that does Tl;dr mean? I have seen at many times before.

I will say claiming Bob the Zombie isnt Bob completely destroys the lore. Life force and soul are two completely different things, Bob sacrificed his life to seal the portal. His soul can still ascend to a higher plane. His lifeless body can still walk around, its just a meat puppet. What most likely happened is that Bob went to the Jungle, met with Nilrem, faked his death there, went to Dern to seal away the monster that came through. The depressing weapons arent Bob's, Bob's training turned a pair of knives into a spear over the course of 20 years. Nilrem being cursed could mean more than turning into Bob, he could be cursed with color blindness or lactosentolerant. Bob is a hero, as he saved Wynn from the undead for 50 years, then he died. This thing sounds like some did lore of Bob off of Sparknotes.

 

No offense, to Noel, but I agree.

 

by that i ment doing all the high lvl gavel quests that clearly make this theory what it is, most of the info i read took me by suprise i must admit

 

Also...
I believe Bob used his life force to seal away the Corrupter of Worlds in the underground of temple of legends, which ALSO stopped the spread of corruption.

So yeah he did do that.

 

Nilrem is the owner of the depressing weapons, and you get Bob's Crushed Sould but it's actually Nilrem's soul. Basically, anything about Bob is Nilrem except the Sealed Letters.

He didn't seal the CoW away. The only thing stopping you from going to the CoW is a guy who says that you aren't ready yet, or that it will kill you without the special helmet.

 

No... I believe somewhere in the lore it said that Bob gave his life to seal the cow away. Yes you can enter, but I swear somewhere it said that it couldn't leave, I'll chexk

 

I meant with the "close" part that Bob closed a gate, the Dern gate I'm assuming.

6. Nilrem's Curse wasn't to turn into Bob. Everyone thought he was Bob and was known as Bob. Nilrem's Curse was giving up his soul/life force to stop the spread of Corruption.
