Well people in a different country spell things differently, it's just how their way of grammer is. I don't see why you may feel it's annoying.

 

Also, the English language is a lot older than the American language, so if you want to decide who would be wrong by date of origin, then the American language and grammatical terms are actually incorrect, meaning the way it is written is correct.

 

I find that my country is pretty stupid and I never support it, but it makes me cringe since thats the way I was taught
