so I was hanging out with Sherk because he is a pretty cool oger, anyway I looked around his house and I found a message behind his fire place when the button opened it, a chill ran up my spine

No, they are not the same and cannot be. Shrek always did what needed to be done, and he always did what was asked of him or what he said he was going to do. Shrek is a hero. Sherk, on the other hand, didn't do what he said he was going to do. Sherk shirked his responsibility and passed it off to someone else; you, the human. Sherk, therefore, is not a hero. There is one way, though, that Sherk could be considered heroic, that I can think of, however, given his name, I don't believe it. If Sherk was a teacher and said that he "forgot" something, so that you, the player, could learn or gain something, then his waiting for you to do the quest for him, could be considered "heroic". However, given his name, and given that he never mentions being anyone's teacher, I am certain that he shirked his obligations and dumped them on the player's shoulder, making him no hero.

Sherk is no Shrek.

 

I personally feel like the The Maiden Tower quest was a little shoehorned in, and was simply there to be another quest in the book. It made some reference to Shrek, but then decided "Oh yeah, uhh, evil sorcerer business and stuff go kill this miniboss". It looks like it was trying to be Shrek, but then it just kinda sucked at it. It was really "Go do this thing for me because I told you to" "Go get this thing for me so we can make this quest longer". I mean, did Shrek ever hire someone to kill the princess, then say "I guess I don't have to do anything then even though she's dead, thanks stranger", or did he have a long emotional scene where they bond, even though he's an ogre, and then it turns out she's an ogre too?

 

Keep in mind that this is technically a side-quest, we don't have the main story yet.
