    Those mercenaries you can buy at Almuj are such scammers too. You have to pay two emeralds to hire a mercenary that doesn't even work right! TWO WHOLE EMERALDS!

    Yeah, but they are absolutely worthless. Almuj is the only city I know where you can hire them, and they despawn really quickly...

    I'll still probably try it since they're so cheap. Especially since half the mobs I kill turn into Emerald fountains upon death. Ever since Gavel update you can get like 7 emeralds from one mob, so this isn't wasting too much :3

    On the coast of Gavel, before you go inside the big gate, to the ...left(?) of the docks (facing the ocean), there is a "retired scam merchant" hanging out.

    I hired a high-quality one, and you know what the first thing it did was? Jump into a nearby lake and the proceed to attack someones perfectly tame cat. I mean saying it now it sounds hilarious, but it was just kind of a "really?" moment for me. Especially considering this was the "high-quality" mercenary.
