This is the way I went on the first day of release. I went on my level 64 archer and was able to do it without dying... I see what you did there by the big green statue. You went into the Kandon Beda region and then killed yourself and appeared on the other side of the wall. You cheaty cheater!

 

considering you can just go over the mountains anyway it doesn't really matter

By the way, the second picture is decay, not corruption. It confuses me too.

The decay was caused by corruption. When thinking of corruption you're not supposed to think of the black spikes and nether stuff. The corruption in Gavel is more like real world corruption. It's just the idea of evil itself. And the worm that brought the decay upon Gavel was caused by the corruption within Gavel almost like a curse. This is evident from the quests within the dark/light forest and the areas around Lexdale. It just takes a little dissection. With this new information, you can also infer that the corruption in Wynn was caused by the inhabitants of the area and their greed to acquire the emeralds within the province, and perhaps the nether and those big black spikes and all the monsters materialized because the corruption was already there? In people's minds. In this way, the root of all the evil in Wynn and Gavel is the humans and villagers themselves. That is all. There is corruption in Gavel and it's the same corruption we see in Wynn. Its darkness is only manifesting in a different way.

 

I do agree with you that the decay is more like a course version of Wynn's corruption, and it makes a lot of sense. But I still beleve that the black spot is the start point if all the corruption and the decay in Wynn Gavel and Dern. As you can see in the flashback on the quest Traproot, the forest was clean, and then the black spot appeared. I do beleve that this is the point where alll the decay started, and spreaded to wynn. What made is to Wynn wasn't as strong as the decay, and you can see it because the villgers are not being controlled like in Lexdale. But that's just my thoughts, and remember, Grian said in the stream that the decay is something completly different in Gavel, wich is a place of light, rather then Wynn, which is a darker and more corrupted place. ​

 

in simple terms,

corruption =/= nether or wynn's corruption

 

Please abusing the Kandon-Beda region respawn to get to the Sky Islands are everywhere...
