Undertale

I've always felt that Gaster has always been in the game itself, contrary to people saying he's a character removed in development. Even his lore points to the idea that he's "in" the game.

First off: The only way to learn about him is to understand that Alphys isn't the first Royal Scientist, and the only way to learn Gasters' name is by hacking his followers into Hotland. When you talk to his followers you learn that he fell into his machine, (other theories state it's a time machine) and because it wasn't finished, he was erased from time and space. Sans is suspected to also be able to time travel within the SAVE and LOAD features of the game.

Second: The only way to meet Gaster is to also hack in his room in the Waterfall area. Even though the location of the room might not matter, it seems rather odd his room was located in Waterfall, when his secret lab was in Snowdin, and his main source of energy was located in Hotland at the Core.

The theory is that Gaster fell into the machine and it removed him from the storyline, and his followers disappeared with him. Everything that related to his memory was destroyed, even his name being wiped from many monster's minds. Only Sans was capable of remembering his name, and Papyrus only remembers that someone used to live in the house with them. Alphys and Asgore also simply remember the Core was built by someone else in the underground.

 

Also, consider that one of the mysterious boat guy's tips/quotes/lines are "Beware of the man who speaks in hands", which is supposed to point to Gaster (due to the fact that WingDings font has hands as some of the letters).

 

That could also be an allusion to the Player, or Toby himself. As we play the game with our hands, and Toby designed the game with his hands. but it might just mean that Toby IS Gaster :p

Toby once said in a tweet that any updates to undertale would be "pretty much just bug patches"

This is very similar to the wording for the dog sitting in the secret snowdin area that is sitting on a "rug that needs to be patched" I think that Gaster is going to patch himself back into the game, and become a new boss after true pacifist.
